How does it work?

SDI is a drip system that is buried below the soil’s surface that supplies water directly to the roots. The system’s depth depends on the soil type and the plant’s root structure.

  • Depth: normally ranges between:
        Medium: 4-10 inches
        Deep: 10-16 inches
  • Spacing: 2 1/2-5 feet
  • Simple dripline and sub-main connection - with QFlex riser

Who is SDI designed for?

1. For long-term land ownership, or long-term investment.
2. Farmers in areas with water shortages: Saves significant amount of water in comparison to overhead of flood irrigation.
3. Farmers in areas with high labor costs or shortages: Requires lower labor costs than on-surface drip irrigation.
4. Farmers aiming to optimize land use: Utilize 100% of the land for efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
5. All kinds of topographic terrain, from slope to oddly-shaped plots.

It’s good for your crop

Providing your yield with optimal growing condition by:

  • Shortens time between harvest crop cycles, increases yield.
  • Keeps soil surface dry- Reduces weed population.
  • Improves water consumption efficiency.
  • Improves fertilization efficiency (particularly phosphorus availability).
  • Reduces humidity which reduces the risk of diseases.

It's good for the environment

Promoting eco-friendly and resource-efficient agricultural practices by:

  • Usage of recycled water for SDI, reduces water costs and fertilizers application.
  • Reduces CO2 emissions- requires less energy.
  • Prevents surface runoff and
  • prevents soil erosion.
  • Reduces soil compaction, less tillage.
  • Ability to apply liquid manure and organic fertilizers.
  • Reduces the need for herbicides.
  • Reduces nutrients and fertilizers quantities – zero fertilizer leaching.

It’s good for your agro-business

Showcasing a sustainable and cost-effective approach to farming operations by:

  • Fully automated.
  • Reduces manpower costs (Opex)- no need to lay out or recoil equipment every season.
  • Facilitates equipment mobilization - no limitations on operating machinery in the field (sowing, harvesting, etc.).
  • Less herbicides, nutrients and fertilizers.
  • Increases profitability.
  • Extends the irrigation system’s work life.

The optimal irrigation solution for crop rotation

Regenerative agriculture enhances soil health and biodiversity, improves water retention, and sequesters carbon, while crop rotation aids these efforts by disrupting monoculture, preventing soil nutrient depletion, and reducing pests and diseases, enabling farmers to foster land harmony, boost long-term productivity and incomes, and contribute to a sustainable, secure global food system.

Netafim’s Advanced Precision Farming System - SDI - stands out as a transformative technique for rotational crop farmers by providing one irrigation and fertigation system suitable for various crops without the need to change the system design every crop cycle!

Almonds

Almonds

Discover how meeting almond tree water requirements with Netafim's almond irrigation systems improves production and increases yield for your orchard.

Corn

Discover corn drip irrigation methods to improve crop yield. Learn how Netafim's irrigation systems consistently meet corn water requirements and increase production.

Cotton

Cotton

Cotton can be sensitive to overirrigation, but with drip irrigation systems, water is delivered directly to the root of the plant and doesn’t wet the canopy. This keeps humidity under control and promotes healthier crops.
